On Tuesday, September 9th the Lady Bolts took down the Fairmont Firebirds in a five set match, who had recently given Centerville their first GWOC loss since 2021.
Northmont and Fairmont have been two comparable teams in the GWOC the past couple years and it is always destined to be a good match for the fans. After a tough loss against Butler, the Lady Bolts were fired up to win.
In the first set, the Bolts started out strong, each player contributing in their own way. This allowed the Bolts to gain momentum and energy. The Bolts carried this momentum throughout set one and won 25-17.
In set two, the Bolts held a steady lead throughout the set and had the lead late, 23-21. The Firebirds responded with a run of their own taking the lead 23-24 and forced a Bolts timeout. Coming out of the timeout, the Firebirds capitalized on their runs and took set two 23-25.
Set three the Lady Bolts responded by holding a slight lead throughout the set but Fairmont continued to stay in the set. The Bolts had a 23-21 lead when Fairmont called a timeout and it was a repeat of set two but the Bolts were able to get Fairmont out of system and win the set, 25-22.
In set four, the Bolts couldn't slow down Fairmonts offense which allowed the Firebirds to go on big runs. The Firebirds led set four 13-3 which forced a timeout from the Bolts. The Bolts battled back point for point to eventually tie the game up 18-18. The Firebirds went on another big run and won 19-25.
It all came down to the fifth set, which was Northmonts first time going to five sets in the 2025 season. Fairmont took down the Centerville Elks in five sets earlier this season so they understood the pressure of a fifth set. The Bolts took this as a huge challenge and didn't look back. The Bolts jumped out to a 6-0 lead when Fairmont took their first timeout. This momentum did not slow down as the Bolts continued to fight and lead 13-3 before Fairmont took their last timeout. They responded out of the timeout with a quick run to bring it to 14-8 before the Bolts clinched the match with an overpass kill. The Bolts improved to 2-3 in conference and 5-5 overall.
The Bolts were again led by Jenna Hall with 14 kills, 3 aces, and 7 digs. Jadyn Johnson had 15 kills. Faye Osborne had 7 kills. Brianna Abels had 37 assists, 15 digs, and 2 aces. Meghan Roper led the team again with 16 digs. Halie Hill had 11 digs.
The Bolts host Miamisburg tonight at 6:30 in the Thunderdome.
