The Northmont Girls Volleyball team has continued to battle through a tough part of the schedule, and while our overall record now sits at 6-9, I continue to see growth from this group.
The biggest thing I want people to understand about this team is that we are still young and we are still learning. We have had plenty of ups and downs throughout this season, but every match has given us something to learn from and something to build on.
After a tough loss at Fairmont, 25-8, 25-15, 19-25, 25-16, the Bolts traveled to Brookville and fell in three sets, 25-17, 25-19, 25-19. These were two tough matches for us.
That work started to pay off when we traveled to Miamisburg on September 22nd. The Bolts came out and took care of business in three sets, winning 25-21, 25-19, 25-13. It was a complete team effort and a good response after a difficult stretch.
We followed that up with another strong performance against Wayne. Northmont controlled the first two sets, winning 25-11 and 25-12, before Wayne battled back in the third. The Bolts were able to finish the match, taking the third 25-23 and earning another straight-set victory.
On September 29th, we traveled back to Centerville.
Earlier this season, we took a set from Centerville for the first time since 2020, and we knew going into this match that it would be another major challenge.
Centerville took control early, winning the first two sets 25-12 and 25-17. But once again, the Bolts refused to quit.
In the third set, we battled all the way to the end and found a way to win 26-24. That was another big moment for this team.
For the second time this season, we have taken a set from Centerville. We are currently the only GWOC school this year to have taken a set from Centerville both times we have played them. That is something this team should be proud of.
The Bolts eventually dropped the fourth set 25-14, but the story of the night wasn't the final score. It was the fact that our girls continued to fight, even after being down 2-0 against one of the best teams in the area.
That is what I continue to see from this group. We aren't where we want to be yet. There are still things we need to clean up. There are still moments where we lose momentum, struggle to finish sets, or make mistakes that young teams are going to make, but there are also moments where I look at this team and see how much they are learning. We have taken sets from teams that we haven't been able to take sets from in years. We have put ourselves in positions to win against good teams. We have responded after tough losses. And most importantly, we continue to show up every day ready to get better.
At 6-9 overall and 3-5 in the GWOC, our record may not tell the entire story of this team. The Lady Bolts are young, still learning, and they're showing that they can dig deep and battle in the tight moments or with their backs against the wall.
