The Northmont Thunderbolts showcased resilience, determination, and grit throughout a demanding week of volleyball, finishing with a 2-1 record after facing Sidney, Piqua, and Oakwood.
The Thunderbolts then faced Sidney to open the season, in a hard-fought five-set battle. Northmont dropped the opening set 25-22 but answered with a 25-19 win to even the match. Sidney regained the advantage with a 25-17 third-set victory before Northmont responded once again with an impressive 25-14 fourth set to force another deciding fifth. Despite the momentum, Sidney pulled away in the final set, claiming a 15-5 victory to hand Northmont its first loss.
Northmont faced Piqua last Wednesday with a convincing straight-set victory over Piqua. The Thunderbolts controlled the match from the opening serve, winning 25-13, 25-14, and 25-19. Consistent serving, aggressive attacking, and disciplined defense allowed Northmont to pick up its first win of the season.
Northmont ended the week with an exciting five-set victory over Oakwood. After taking the opening set 25-20, the Lumberjacks responded by winning the second set 25-20. The Thunderbolts regained momentum with a strong 25-18 third-set victory before Oakwood forced a decisive fifth set by narrowly claiming the fourth, 25-23. Northmont responded when it mattered most, controlling the final set from the start to earn a 15-7 victory and secure the match.
The Thunderbolts demonstrated toughness throughout the week, competing in two five-set matches and responding well to adversity. Finishing the week with a 2-1 record, Northmont continued to build valuable experience and momentum throughout the first week.
