NORTHMONT FOOTBALL HALL OF FAME TO WELCOME FOUR NEW MEMBERS

A longtime program supporter, an All-Conference quarterback, a standout defensive back/wide receiver, and a left guard/linebacker will earn the recognition they deserve this week. The 2026 Hall of Fame class consists of Steve Burtis, Jonathan Clark, Danny Lewis, and John Moyer.
The Hall of Fame induction ceremony will be held at halftime of the Northmont vs. KIPP Academy home football game on Friday, September 4. The new inductees will have their names added to the displays at the main entrance of Northmont’s Premier Health Stadium, as well as in the Lightning Lounge.

The Northmont Hall of Fame Committee would like to congratulate all of these individuals on this tremendous honor. In addition, the committee would like to thank the Northmont Thunderback Club for its contributions to this special event.


STEVE BURTIS
Steve Burtis has been a longtime supporter of the Northmont football program. It’s not often that you can find someone in the same place every Friday night in the fall for more than 25 years, but that is the case with Steve.
Steve has been on the opponent’s sideline for every home football game at Northmont High School as a member of the “Chain Gang.” Over the years, Steve has watched his three sons play for the Thunderbolts and is currently watching his grandson continue the tradition.
When asked why he has been a member of the “Chain Gang” for so long, he responded, “Well, it’s the best seat in the house.”
Athletic Director Micah Harding said, “When I was hired, Robin told me to get ahold of Steve and you will never have to worry about the ‘Chain Gang’ on Friday nights. Northmont appreciates your years of dedication to the football program.”
Steve Burtis is retired and resides in Englewood, Ohio.

JONATHAN CLARK
Jonathan Clark is a 2001 graduate of Northmont. One could say that Jon experienced both ends of the offensive spectrum while playing quarterback at Northmont. He ran the wishbone offense his sophomore year as a member of the “Dirty 30” before transitioning to the Air Raid/Spread offense during his junior and senior seasons at the beginning of Coach Schneider’s tenure at Northmont.
Jon rewrote the Northmont record book for the quarterback position at the time of his graduation and still holds some of those records today.
Quarterback Coach Mike Schneider had this to say about Jon: “Jon was one of the biggest factors in our improvement from a winless team to a .500 season, which springboarded us to a decade of great success and championships. Our offense relied heavily on his passing ability.”
Jon had an unforgettable night during his junior year against Troy. In that game, Jon set school records for the most passing attempts, completions, and passing yards in a single game. His stat line that night was an impressive 30 completions on 60 attempts for 445 yards.
At the time of his graduation, he held the single-season passing yardage record with 2,571 yards, a total that still ranks fifth in school history. Jon finished his career with 417 completions, which ranks second in school history, for 4,592 yards, which ranks third in career passing yards. Jon also ranks No. 1 in career punting average.
These accomplishments on the field led to Jon being selected All-Conference during both his junior and senior seasons.
After completing his high school career, Jon continued his playing career at Butler University, where he was a two-time letter winner and a member of the Pioneer Football League All-Academic Team all four years.
Jon is currently a scientist entrepreneur and resides in Loveland, Ohio.


DANNY LEWIS
Danny Lewis is a 2019 graduate of Northmont. During his illustrious career, Danny played defensive back and wide receiver for the Bolts.
Danny was selected First Team All-GWOC during both his junior and senior seasons and was named First Team All-Southwest District his senior season. Danny was also selected to play in the Ohio North-South All-Star Game.
Following his career at Northmont, Danny accepted an athletic scholarship to continue his playing career at Marian University.
Tony Broering, former Northmont head coach, had this to say: “Danny Lewis is one of the most outstanding athletes who I had the opportunity to coach. Danny was an integral part of one of the best teams in Northmont football history. His athletic ability combined with his ferocious competitive spirit made Danny a special player.”
Danny is currently a physical education teacher and a member of the Thunderbolts’ varsity coaching staff.

JOHN MOYER
John Moyer is a 1970 graduate of Northmont. During his career, John played left guard and linebacker for the Bolts.John was selected All-Southwestern Buckeye League and All-Greater Dayton. He was also named an Associated Press Southwestern District All-Star.
When John was asked about memories and stories that stood out during his time as a Thunderbolt, he was quick to mention Coach Fireball Roberts’ halftime speeches. He also said he would never forget Coach Booher grabbing a player’s facemask as he came off the field after making a bad play and giving him “the current facts of life.”
John is retired from Moyer Industries Inc. and currently resides in Troy, Ohio.
