On Saturday May 16th, State Qualifiers: Damare Smith, Tyler Norvall, Ja'shawn Rivers, Eric Peterson Jr., and Jonathan McClain traveled to Hilliard Darby to compete in the OHSAA Middle School State Championship.

Coach Lori Barnes felt they had a shot at winning the state title, but things had to go in their favor. Damare Smith set the tone for the Bolts by placing 2nd in the 100 meter hurdles. He then earned the Individual State Title in the high jump with a jump of 6 feet 2 inches. This jump set a new school record. He then capped of his already impressive day with another 2nd place finish in the 200 meter hurdles.

Damare's teammates also got into the action. Tyler Norvall placed 7th overall in the 100 meters, and the 4x200 relay team of Tyler Norvall, Ja'shawn Rivers , Eric Peterson Jr., and Jonathan McClain ran a blazing time of 1:37.25 to place first in their heat and 2nd overall. The time earned the boys the school record in the 4x200. This was a huge accomplishment for the 4x200 team as they weren't ranked in the top 8 going into the state meet. Giving the Bolts a much needed 8 point toward their overall score.

However, Tyler Norvall wasn't done for the day and was ready to show his talent in the 400 meter dash. Tyler, already the school record holder in the 400m was confident he would do well. He ran an outstanding race and placed 2nd over with a time of 51.90 and once again broke his own school record. With the 2nd place finish this allowed the Bolts to jump past Wilmington for the state title.

Coach Barnes is proud of each of the boys accomplishments she stated "Everything came together perfectly on the right day. The 4x200 relay ran the best they have run all year. The individual events all competed amazingly as well. It was a GREAT DAY!!!"

This is Northmont MS Track and Field's first state title and Coach Barnes cannot be any prouder of these young men.
