For the 1st time in 13 years, Northmont will be sending a gymnast to the OHSAA State Meet to compete on the balance beam. Sophomore Evie Barnes scored a career high 8.525 on beam this past Saturday at the Southwest District meet.
We tell the girls, "stay on the beam and connect your skills, and good things will happen" said head coach, Larry McCoppin. As soon as soon as Evie got on the beam, you could see a look of confidence in her even though she says her legs were shaking. She hit every jump, every turn and every tumbling series in her routine. All that was left was to stand up on her dismount. One little step on the landing and her teammates and coaches exploded with cheers.
As soon as her score was flashed, Assistant Coach, Jonathan Troehler, looked at Coach McCoppin and said, "she's going to State". It was early in the meet, but Evie held on to the 4th place finish for the rest of the meet.
Evie's coaches and teammates are so proud to have her represent Northmont on the gymnastics stage at the biggest high school meet of the year.
Go Evie!
