Friday night's GWOC matchup between Northmont and Wayne brought a highly anticipated crowd to the Thunderdome. Both teams entered in a 3-way tie along with Centerville at the top of the GWOC standings.

Neither team grabbed an early advantage in the 1st quarter. A back-and-forth start saw the Bolts lead at the quarter break 9-7.

In the 2nd quarter, Wayne's 2-3 zone started to give the Bolts problems. Shots weren't falling and the Bolts couldn't get good looks. The zone took away some of Northmont's momentum and they went into the locker room down 18-13.

"We let them slow us down...I felt like we got away from the things that allow us to be successful ", Coach Allen Spears said on the 1st half performance.

The 3rd quarter continued into Wayne's favor. The Warriors continued to create problems with their zone defense while getting to the rim on the offensive end. It allowed the Warriors to extend the lead at the quarter break to 36-22. They would extend to as much as 18 points in the 4th quarter. But Northmont fought back.

Shifting to a full court pressure defense, the Bolts got the deficit down to 10 points with under 2 minutes left in the game, and were a few key free throws away from getting the deficit to 6 points. But opportunities slipped and Wayne would survive, winning 49-40 and snapping the Bolts' 7-game win streak. The loss bumped the Bolts to 5-2 in conference play and a tie with Fairmont at 5-2. The loss moves the Bolts to 7-4 overall. Kaleb Kelly led scoring with 12 points.

JV lost a tough game on a buzzer beater 50-49. Caleb Thompson led scoring with 14 points.

Freshman fell 46-32. Marcus Lindsey led scoring with 12 points.
