In a pre-Christmas conference clash, the Boys Basketball team hosted the Springboro Panthers at the Thunderdome last Tuesday. The Bolts were looking to win their 5th straight game.
Defensively, the Bolts made things difficult for Springboro. Sophomore Bryson Thomas-Wiggins and junior Micah Jacobs were tasked with defending Panther guard Brady Gutmann, who was one of the leading scorers in the GWOC. The entire defense stepped up and held Springboro to just 5 points in the 1st quarter and 15 points at the half.
After holding a 9-point halftime lead, the Bolts extended to as much as 18 points in the 4th quarter before going back and forth with Springboro to end the game. Coach Allen Spears shared while he was happy with the performance, there was still room for improvement.
“We want to always be improving…we have to be better and more mature down the stretch not fouling and being loose offensively…hopefully we can get better from it and mature from it.”
The Bolts walked away with a 55-41 victory to move to 5-3 overall and 3-1 in the GWOC. Sophomore Kaleb Kelly led scoring with 17 points.
JV won 52-49 in their matchup with Springboro. Junior Anthony Lemon led scoring with 17 points.
Freshman fell to Springboro 53-40. Cam Copeland led scoring with 15 points.
All 3 teams return to action this Friday, January 2nd at Trent Arena against Fairmont.
