Thunderbolts Make a Splash at Butler Invite

On Saturday, the Northmont Thunderbolts swim team competed at Wright State University in the Butler Invite, facing off against 11 other teams in a highly competitive meet. The Thunderbolts had an impressive showing, with the boys team finishing 4th overall and the girls team placing 7th overall.

The relays set the tone early in the meet. The girls 200 medley relay of Amia Burgess, Abby Young, Abbie Weeks, and Yanelle Wilkinson-Harper placed 7th overall with a time of 2:12.16. The boys 200 medley relay delivered a standout performance, placing 3rd overall with a time of 1:53.21, swum by Knox Reed, Javier Pfeiler, Logan Suchland, and Gage Cohn.

Several Thunderbolts turned in strong individual performances throughout the meet. Abby Young finished 11th in the 200 freestyle (2:30.36), while Scott Abbott placed 8th in the same event with a time of 2:12.88. In the 200 IM, Amia Burgess placed 8th (2:36.80) and Logan Suchland also earned an 8th-place finish with a time of 2:30.44.

Sprint events proved to be a major strength for Northmont, led by Javier Pfeiler, who captured 1st place in both the 50 freestyle (22.32) and the 100 freestyle (50.04). Logan Suchland added a 5th-place finish in the 100 butterfly (1:06.65).

Distance events were another highlight for the Thunderbolts. Amia Burgess won the 500 freestyle with a time of 5:57.80, while Scott Abbott earned a strong 4th-place finish in the boys 500 freestyle, touching in 5:51.84.

In the backstroke events, Knox Reed placed 4th in the 100 backstroke (1:04.71), followed closely by Gage Cohn, who earned 5th place with a time of 1:07.19. Abbie Weeks continued her strong meet with a 2nd-place finish in the 100 breaststroke (1:16.18).

The Thunderbolts closed the meet with strong relay performances. The girls 400 freestyle relay of Yanelle Wilkinson-Harper, Amia Burgess, Annika Comer, and Abbie Weeks placed 5th overall with a time of 4:47.46. On the boys side, Knox Reed, Logan Suchland, Gage Cohn, and Javier Pfeiler finished 2nd overall in the 400 freestyle relay with a time of 3:45.29.

The Thunderbolts will continue to practice hard over the holiday break and return to competition on January 10th at the Huber Heights YMCA, where they will face Bethel, Brookville, Carlisle, Dixie, Northwestern, MVS, Greenon, Xenia, and Tipp City. The meet is scheduled to begin at 3:30 PM.
