The Student Run Credit Union at Northmont High School is celebrating its 15th year there. The SRCU teams up with CODE Credit Union to give students a chance to learn real-world financial skills by managing their own accounts and money.
Not only do students have an opportunity to manage their own money, but DECA members Nadia Martin, Emelia Yingling, Brailyn Feight, and Alex Myer will operate the credit union during lunch as student tellers. This provides these students with hands-on experience with customer service and another way of being able to understand personal finance, which is now a state-required graduation requirement.
The Student Run Credit Union operates during lunch on Wednesday and Friday. Students who have a CODE Credit Union account are able to do all their banking during lunchtime. Anyone needing more information about the Credit Union can reach out to Northmont DECA Advisor Eric Wagner at ewagner@northmontschools.net.
This is also just one of the ways the Northmont DECA Chapter is going to be educating Northmont students this year on what it means to be financially literate. Stay tuned for more ways that students will be able to "Surf into Savings."
