Thunderbolts Battle to the End but Fall Short in Back-to-Back Five-Set Thrillers

On Monday, September 22nd the Bolts faced Sidney High School and on Tuesday, September 23rd the Bolts faced Beavercreek High School and lost both in a pair of marathon matches.

Against Sidney, the Bolts had to battle in a match that took three hours to complete. In the first set, the Bolts were working with a different lineup as there have been some injuries on the team. Each set was a back and forth battle that went point for point until the very end. In the first set, the Bolts lost 22-25 due to adjusting to a new lineup. In the second set, the Bolts found their groove but had to continue to dig deep to win it, 32-30. In set three, neither side would give up but Sidney eventually took set three, 23-25. In set four, the Lady Bolts took a lead but it was eventually cut short as Sidney clawed their way back to bring it to 23-23 but the Bolts prevailed and won 25-23, forcing a fifth set. In set five, the Bolts had the momentum and the energy and had a 14-11 lead which gave them match point. Due to a call that didn't end the game the Bolts lost momentum and fell 14-16 in set five. Senior, Jadyn Johnson had a career high 26 kills and Senior, Brianna Abels had a career high 54 assists. Senior, Jenna Hall had 17 kills. Senior, Halie Hill had 21 digs.

After, a long three hour match at Sidney the night before the Bolts were ready to battle and take on Beavercreek. In set one, the Bolts worked through another lineup change and lost set one, 19-25. In set two and three, the Bolts dug deep and controlled their side which allowed them to capitalize on the Creek mistakes and eventually win set two, 25-19 and set three, 25-21. With a two set to one set for Creek lead the Bolts had all the momentum going into set four. Set four, the Bolts looked flawless and made sure that Beavercreek couldn't fight their way. The Bolts had a 20-16 lead when Creek took a timeout and out of the timeout they rattled off two points bringing it to 20-18 forcing a Northmont timeout. Coming out of the timeout the Beavers went on a 4 point run bringing it to 20-22 which forced another Northmont timeout. The Bolts responded out of the timeout and the score was 21-22 before two calls went against the Bolts that were not in their favor. This eventually brought the score to 21-24 and allowed Creek to win set four and force a fifth set. In the fifth set, the Bolts responded out of emotion and it allowed Creek to take advantage and burst out to an 3-11 lead that the Bolts could not respond to, eventually losing 5-15. The Bolts were led by Jenna Hall with 16 kills, Jadyn Johnson had 9 kills, and 5 blocks. Abels had 35 assists. Halie had 25 digs. Ryleigh had a great night with 7 kills and Faye also had a great night with 6 kills and 7 digs.
