On a rainy Monday night, the girls’ varsity team took the victory, 2-1, in their non-conference matchup against the Red Devils. In what was a physical and closely contested match, the team showed grit and passion as they improved to 7-4 on the season.
The Bolts drew blood first as Ashlyn Bazile (So.) curled a stellar corner kick just inside the back post of the opposing team’s goal. The pace and placement of the ball was pure class, and it gave the Bolts the advantage, 1-0. The possession would go back and forth between both sides throughout the first half, but near the end of the half the Red Devils would score the equalizer with a well-placed shot to the inside of the near post, despite a great effort from goalkeeper Ayla Rammel (Sr.).
In the second half, Ashlyn Bazile scored her second goal of the evening from mid-range. Retaking the lead for Northmont. That was Bazile’s 17th goal contribution (15G/2A) across 10 games so far this season in what has been a strong continuation of form from her freshman season. Captain Ayla Rammel also put forth a strong performance in goal with 8 saves on the evening. Her communication was also very impressive as she delivered concise and specific information to her teammates throughout the match.
Late in the second half, Tipp City had an opportunity to once again equalize as they were awarded a penalty kick as a result of a handball in the box. Everyone on the sidelines and the stadium held their breath as they waited for the shot. The opposing player ran up to the spot, made contact, and sent it over the net. Keeping the score 2-1. Which is how the match would end as Northmont would nab their 7th win of the season.
Next up, the Bolts will go toe-to-toe with Fairmont at home on Wednesday 9/24.
